A NURSERY founder says her dreams have come true after expanding the business and taking over two new facilities.

Laura Leigh Davies set up Child’s Play Private Nursery in Ferryhill in 2013 after working in the industry for nine years.

The mother-of-one has since taken over two nurseries in Chester-Le-Street and Seaham, which have relaunched this month under the Child’s Play brand.

Mrs Davies said: “I initially wanted to be a teacher, until I did a work placement in a nursery and fell in love with childcare.

“I took on my first management role in a nursery aged 17 and it was my aim to run my own business one day.

“When I opened Child’s Play it was with four families on the books, over the years that has grown to 85 families and 19 members of staff.”

The Ferryhill based childcare centre is rated Outstanding by Ofsted and has picked up numerous awards over the years from the Nursery World Awards and the National Day Nurseries Association.

Following the successful growth of the business, Mrs Davies was also invited to a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace where she met HRH Prince Charles.

Mrs Davies added: “I am very passionate about my business and have always kept my eyes open for opportunities to expand.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have taken on two more nurseries to join the Child’s Play brand. The staff have all been kept on and they are extremely motivated.

“We now have a total of 300 families on board and more than 50 members of staff.”

Mrs Davies, who lives in Mainsforth, near Ferryhill, plans on splitting her time equally between the three nurseries and is already planning refurbishments and redecoration as well as training for staff members.

The 28-year-old is also working on developing software which will enable nurseries to go paperless.

She added: “The whole process of taking over the nurseries in Chester-Le-Street and Seaham has only taken ten weeks, so it still doesn’t feel real. It’s like a dream come true.

“Our ethos is giving children a place to be children, and I’m really looking forward to meeting all of our new families and working with staff to support and train them to the Child’s Play standard.”
